Advertising specialties are free items that have the name, address, and phone number of the advertiser on them. These could include ball-point pens, calendars, scratch pads, mugs, you name it. They can also be free samples of what you sell.

Advertising specialties are great for "reminder advertising." They put your name in front of your prospective customers without the customer ever leaving their home or office. The customer ends up thinking about you while going about a daily activity like checking the date, drinking coffee, or jotting a note to a co-worker.

Use specialties as part of a larger marketing and advertising plan. Advertising specialties are not usually as effective when used alone. Get people to your site or business with ads, then give them specialties as they leave. Not only does this make a customer feel good about you, it gives them an additional way to remember you. Everyone likes a free gift!

Be sure that specialties and samples you give away are something you would wish to have your name on. If it looks too cheap or inappropriate, it may do more harm than good. Don't give away anything that will break easily or quickly.
